July Volunteer Month of Action

July is the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition’s Volunteer Month of Action!

Each week, OVRC will send out new weekly challenges that volunteers can complete to receive points that will be totaled up after the Ohio Primary Election on August 2nd. Volunteers are welcome to complete challenges and tasks at any point of the month to receive points. We will have prizes available at the end of the month for the top point earners around the state.

By the time of the election, our goal is to have spread more awareness around the Primary, as well as continue spreading Election Protection materials and hotline information at the grassroots level, especially in communities that could benefit from additional voting resources from us. We are incredibly excited to amplify the election protection work that volunteers have been doing on the ground!

Week One

Become an Election Ambassador

Election Ambassadors distribute posters, palm cards, or yard signs featuring the Election Protection Hotline 866-OUR-VOTE and other voting rights literature to places such as barbershops, bookstores, churches, coffee shops, and food pantries.

Sign up to officially become an Election Ambassador for the August 2 primary through Action Network!

Join the OVRC Volunteer Slack

On last month’s OVRC Volunteer Call, we launched the OVRC Volunteer Slack! Slack is an online workspace that will act as a “Volunteer Hub” for you to stay updated on OVRC news, get access to EP resources and voter education materials, and follow what other volunteers are up to around the state.

Join the Slack channel to be part of a community we are building around Election Protection and stay connected to other volunteers near and far who are also passionate about this work.

Submit Your Pictures!

As you are distributing voter education and election protection materials and talking to your community about voting, make sure you take some pictures and send them to us! Whether you are tabling at a farmer’s market or block party, placing palm cards at your coffee shop, or talking to your neighbors while hanging up yard signs, snap a quick pic and submit it so that we can showcase our wonderful volunteers around the state. You can upload your picture to this form or email Courtney.

Order Materials

You are the best messengers in your communities! That’s why we want to give you the materials you need to spread the word about the Election Protection hotline. We have various EP materials available at different distribution points around Ohio.

To request materials to distribute, you need to submit the Materials Order form and we will connect you with the closest distribution point for you to obtain what you need.

Week Two

Follow OVRC on Social Media

One of the best ways to stay up to date with the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition is by following our Facebook and twitter! There you can find more weekly information about our Month of Action and stay informed with updates from our team as we post about voting and news happening around Ohio.

Refer a Friend to Become an Election Ambassador

Volunteering can be more fun when you have a friend to do it with!

Election Ambassadors distribute posters, palm cards, or yard signs featuring the Election Protection Hotline 866-OUR-VOTE and other voting rights literature to places such as barbershops, bookstores, churches, coffee shops, and food pantries.

Use this link to send to someone to recruit them to become an Election Ambassador through Action Network so that they can take part in spreading good voting information and resources for the August 2 primary!

Record a Short Video!

With the Ohio Primary just weeks away, we are looking for volunteers to record short videos highlighting why they are involved with Election Protection or why it’s important to get out and vote this year.

If you need some inspiration or would like to see an example of a video you can submit, check out an OVRC volunteer, Tiffany’s recent submission here!

Don’t forget to also take pictures as you are distributing voter education and election protection materials or talking to your community about voting. We love to see the work that is being done around the state, so please snap a quick pic and submit it so that we can showcase our wonderful volunteers around the state.

You can upload your pictures and short videos to this form or email Courtney.

Week Three

Use Our Social Media Toolkit to Post About Voting

You can post about voting and share information about the Election Protection hotline on your own social media platforms. Our social media toolkit has sample posts and graphics you can use to share with your friends and family about the importance of voting and the resources available to them. Psssst – you can even get a bonus point for tagging us in your posts!

Attend a Gathering to Share Election Protection or Voting Information

With summer being a hot time for festivals, farmer’s markets, and outdoor festivities, you can use this time as an opportunity to share voting resources in person! We want to be meeting people where they’re at as much as possible and Summer is a great time to do just that. If you’re looking for materials to share while you’re out and about, you can use this Materials Request Form and we will connect you with a place nearby where you can collect your materials.

Ask a Business or Organization to Put Election Protection Materials Out

Many organizations are willing to share Election Protection materials in their establishments, if you ask! Some of our favorite places to share our voting materials and resources are libraries, rec centers, and small businesses. Because the work that we do focuses on non-partisan voter advocacy, we have the opportunity to spread our reach in areas that could benefit from additional voter education. For this week’s task, all you need to do is ask an organization near you to hang a poster somewhere, keep a stack of palm cards on their counter, or maybe even pin resources on a bulletin board, snap a picture and share with us here!

Week Four

Sign Up to Put an EP Yard Sign At a Polling Location on Election Day

Election Day is coming up on August 2, and we want Ohio voters across the state to know that they can call the Election Protection hotline if they experience problems while voting. We have Election Protection yard signs for you to put up at a polling location or at your county Board of Elections. Sign up here to put up an EP yard sign and we’ll coordinate with you to get you a yard sign if you don’t have one already.

Help spread the word about early voting and get some easy points this week by sharing one of OVRC’s posts! With Election Day just next week, it’s important for us to help stop misinformation online and promote good voting information, like sharing the Election Protection hotline. You can share this post on Facebook or retweet it on Twitter. Let’s all fill our feeds with information that is going to help keep all voters feeling confident when they head to the polls.

Go and vote!

Whether you’re going to vote early at your Board of Elections or Early Vote Center, voting by mail this year, or waiting to vote on Election Day on August 2nd, we want to see! Share with us your pictures at the polls, videos while you wait in line, or voting stories this year. As a trusted messenger for voting information and resources in your community, friends and family can often be encouraged to go vote when they see those they know doing it too. Feel free to share your pictures and stories by tagging the Ohio Voter Rights Coalition on social media, or use this form to submit any Month of Action work you’re doing.
