Protect Our Freedom to Vote
No matter our race, background or zip code most of us believe that for democracy to work for all of us, it must include us all. To move forward together as a nation, we must ensure that every American has the freedom to vote.
A handful of Ohio lawmakers are proposing new legislation that adds additional barriers to voting: dropboxes, early voting, and the freedom to vote in the manner of your choice are in jeopardy.
Our organizations stand opposed to restrictive ID requirements and cuts to early voting methods. Instead of taking us backwards, Ohioans need to look forward by making these equitable improvements:
- Expand access to drop boxes by permitting counties to have more than one secure ballot drop box that is accessible 24 hours a day,
- Modernize our absentee ballot system by permitting Ohioans to request absentee ballot applications online,
- Permit counties to have the option of more than one early in person voting location, and
- Create fair legislative maps that allow voters to choose their representatives, not the other way around.
Together, we can ensure all Ohioans have the freedom to vote and the results of our elections reflect the will of the people.
